First Week

I was fortunate to get an internship work placement at PC Systems in Richmond , 10th March 2019 marks the first day of my work placement at PC Systems in Richmond.

PC system is mainly focusing on Networking Infrastructure Solutions and Design, IT Installation, Support and Upgrades, On-site Service or Remote Support, Servers,workstations, Notebooks, Printers, Cloud Services & Email Migration, Data Backup and Disaster Recovery.

First thing I was tasked to have a look at the product range offering to their customer. specially security product like Watchguard (https://www.watchguard.com/) and Fortinet (www.fortinet.com ). PC systems is currently focusing small to medium size network infrastructure projects in their business forecast.

I tried to contact local vendor to get watch guard firebox UTM demo virtual appliance to get hands on unfortunately they are not available free. based on the further discussion with Watchguard vendor in NZ , i came to know that they have education partnership program where institution like NMIT will be able to get their hardware appliance product portfolio free for demo purpose. it would be great if NMIT offers firewall/security technologies into their future curriculum as these demo appliance can be sued for training purpose for student’s practicals. further information can be found on https://www.watchguard.com/wgrd-partners/wise

Had a good chat with a couple of the guys working here about what they do and will be going on a ride along with one of the guys either today or next week. It’s very interesting finding out what they do and services they provide and I already have networking infrastructure knowledge in most of these areas so I feel I could be a good asset here. That pretty much sums up my first 8 hours working for a tech company and I quite enjoyed it.
